Just me who had the thought of throwing China off the normal internet since they censor most of it anyway, and then we don't have to bother with cyber attacks from them.

It's actually a double-edged sword. Google leaving China means that the local search engine Baidu, largely state-controlled, gains more stakes in their market. But also, less Internet freedom and outlets for those (such as activists) who're already evading the filters to voice out what's going on.

I guess the only was to get out of the controlling environment is by enlightening the masses, and that might be easier if they got access to some of the sites from the western world.

I'm no statistician but imagine what happens if a rebellion taking 1/5-6ths of the world's population starts bowling over China's mainland after they realize what they've missed on years' worth of censorship and oppression from the more common ideology of freedom.

If there's ever going to be a civil war in China in the future of that scale, it might be a little dangerous to the outside more than we think.

A civil war where the people got knowledge about a lot of high tech stuff could turn _very_ bad... (Mainly thinking of hackers (should actually be called either black hat hackers or crackers) taking the war into cyberspace).
